The 10 Best Mystery Books of 2017
Today, I’ve compiled a list of the 10 best mystery books of 2017. If you’re into mystery thrillers then this is the list for you. Each of these books has been hand selected and have the most captivating and enticing plots that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end! So without further ado here is the list:
1. Everything You Want Me to Be – Mindy Mejia
First on our list of best mystery books is Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Mejia. A teenage girl’s death splits apart a rural community, revealing not only her secrets, but also those of the town. What I love about this book is this is one of those books that stays with you well after the final page is turned. Mejia skillfully spread suspicion over a few different characters that made this novel utterly unpredictable and a page turner. It’s going to be one of my favorite books for this year.
2. The Dry: A Novel – Jane Harper
The Dry won the Victorian Premier’s Award for an unpublished manuscript in 2015, has now been sold to 20 publishers worldwide and optioned as a film by American actor Reese Witherspoon’s company. This novel is beautifully written and will surely transport you to Kiewarra, Australia. It’s hard to believe that this is Ms. Harper’s first novel and she is definitely an author to watch for. This is Australian crime fiction is at its best
3. Echoes in Death: An Eve Dallas Novel – J.D. Robb
If you’re a fan of the In Death series, then you’ll surely love this book. Set in a futuristic New York City, Robb’s blend of sci-fi mysteries are unique and different from anything else in widespread circulation, making her novels a must-read experience. This is one of her darker mysteries with a healthy dose of suspense and intrigue. Those who are new to this series can also pick up this book and just dive right in because this book is written to stand alone.
4. The Sleepwalker: A Novel – Chris Bohjalian
Fourth on our list of best mystery books is The Sleepwalker: A Novel by Chris Bohjalian. Longtime readers of best-selling Lincoln author Chris Bohjalian know that his novels tend to pivot around provocative questions with no obvious answer. It is powered by brilliantly rendered characters, an intriguing topic, and an unforgettable storyline. A must read for those who loves dark mystery novels.
5. The River at Night – Erika Ferencik
An Entertainment Weekly “Must List” pick, The River at Night by Erika Ferencik is a thriller that lives up to its name. It has a dark and twisty, fast-paced story. This is a superb thriller which made my heart pound and left me gasping with every page turned. If you’re all in for an intense read or a delightfully scary story, I greatly recommend you to read this book.
6. The Girl Before: A Novel – JP Delaney
A New York Times Bestseller, The Girl Before by JP Delaney is a cunning psychological suspense novel. The pages are filled with thrilling twists and turns with multiple triggers within the book. This is a dark and brooding tale that was alive with emotion, and it drew me directly to the tension of the tale. This book will keep you guessing until you reach the end of the book!
7. Garden of Lamentations: A Novel – Deborah Crombie
Our favorite book from the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James series. It alludes to Gethsemane and all that garden implies – betrayal, sacrifice, and forgiveness. A perfect combination of family and mystery, this complex and multi-layered plot will surely keep you on your toes while you try to solve the case. An excellent addition to the series!
8. Allegedly – Tiffany D. Jackson
Next on our list of best mystery books is Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson. It is a dark, powerful, twisted and gut-wrenching thriller. I could not stop reading it until I found out the truth about this mystery. This just blew my mind and my heart. A very compelling novel that you should not pass on reading.
9. A Darkness Absolute: A Novel – Kelley Armstrong
An excellent start to a new thriller series. Casey Duncan is definitely a detective to watch. The story is mesmerizing and its eerie setting and chilling character creates an otherworldly atmosphere. I’ve been a fan of Kelley Armstrong for a long time now and she never disappoints. I’m greatly looking forward to the sequel.
10. Right Behind You – Lisa Gardner
Last on our list is Right Behind You by Lisa Gardner. If you’re looking for a real mystery then this is the one. It’s last on our list, but definitely not the worst. Gardner definitely knows how to get us emotionally hooked into a story. Highly recommended!
